Six essential oils

When creating Farm Soap Co. skincare products one of our top priorities is to imbue them with refreshing, natural fragrances from totally natural, botanical essential oils.

Unfortunately, the volatile molecules of certain botanical scents don’t survive the saponification process – during the mixing of alkali and acid some fragrance is lost. We have chosen instead favourite scents from plants whose specific properties are beneficial to skin care and wellbeing.

Delicate, subtle and light, Farm Soap Co. essential oil scents are not overpowering, like synthetic fragrances made from chemicals. The pure and absolute fragrance of the single plant varietal can be enjoyed in its entirety. All essential oils are sourced from sustainable, ethical sources.

We also distill our own hydrosols and macerate our own oils from herbs grown organically in Dorset.

Bergamot

Citrus bergamia, the bergamot orange, is a fragrant fruit whose essence is most commonly used in the making of Earl Grey Tea.

Bergamot essential oil is uplifting, relieves stress and is anti-inflammatory and antibacterial.

Clementine

Citrus nobilis, the clementine, is a tangor, or hybrid between a sweet orange and a mandarin.

Refreshing and sweet, its essential oil is filled with antioxidants that fight free radicals, help reduce fine lines and wrinkles and promote the skin’s healing ability.

Grapefruit

Citrus grandis, the grapefruit, is a cross between a sweet orange and a pomelo.

Its essential oil balances moods, relieves anxiety and energises the senses.

Lavender

Lavandula angustifolia, the most widely cultivated varietal in the lavender family, yields a camphor, medicinal smelling essential oil which is much used in natural skincare preparations.

Its properties have been used for centuries to calm, soothe and relax, as a prelude to sleep and relaxation.

Geranium

The rose scented geranium, Pelargonium graveolens, is widely used in the skincare industry and its essential oil fragrance is reminiscent of sweet summer roses.

Its properties are antimicrobial, antioxidant and anti-aging, helping the skin heal itself against environmental exposure.

Siberian pine

The antiseptic and antimicrobial properties derived from the needles of the Siberian pine tree are known to help soothe skin conditions characterized by itchiness, inflammation, and dryness, such as acne, eczema, and psoriasis.

Produced by steam distillation of the needles and young twigs, Siberian pine oil has a rich, sweet balsamic aroma and is highly regarded for its medicinal properties as well as fragrant scent.
